The Holidays
Well the holidays are coming to a close and things are slowly getting back to normal around here. It seems that Thanksgiving, Sammy's birthday and Christmas have been a whirl wind. Now it's time to shift our focus on baby girls 2nd birthday coming up.
Sammy did wonderful with the holidays and his birthday. Surprisingly there was very little sensory overload. Thanksgiving went wonderfully and even through tiredness he held up really well. We also took him to Santa's village and he had a wonderful time. I wondered how he would do with the noise and things being hectic but he did really good. His birthday went off without a hitch and a good time was had by all. He skated and played with friends and classmates and was beyond thrilled when his teacher came. The only time we noticed any sort of sensory issues was when we all sang Happy Birthday. For some reason he doesn't like people singing. He loves music but he just doesn't like to hear people around him sing. So he covered his ears and held his head down until the singing was over.
Even Christmas went really well. I didn't think it was going to at first. He woke up and asked if Santa had come and I told him he had and then we woke up his sister and headed to the family room to open gifts. Mandy was eager to tear into her gifts but Sammy seemed overwhelmed when he walked in and saw all the gifts that Santa had brought. He covered his ears and looked away and seemed uneasy. It took some coaxing and then he got into the joy of ripping off wrapping paper and bows to uncover his gifts. Usually we have what is referred to as a, "Carnival Christmas" but we noticed that Sammy would become overwhelmed with so many gifts and get bored opening them. This year we toned it down just a wee-bit or so we thought lol.
Sammy got the drum set he asked for and tons of Solar System related items.
I think the biggest surprise to us all was the fact that we had a white Christmas. The kids were thrilled because rarely does it snow here and a white Christmas is just unheard of for us.
After Christmas was over my sister and niece came to stay with us for a few days. Sammy has certain things that he doesn't allow anyone to touch. His globe, his magna-doodle, his letters and his space model. I was very proud that he let my niece touch some of these things. He did very well while she was here. There were a few times when he got upset over her touching his most prized possessions but over all it went pretty good. The last time my sister and niece stayed with us Sammy interacted very little with my niece and played around her more than he played with her. This time he played with her and included her in what he was doing.
Overall I think Sammy did wonderfully and I'm so very proud of him. He has really come a long way.

Conspiracy Theorists
My husband and I often find ourselves watching shows on the History Channel about conspiracy theories.
It never fails to amaze us how crazy the people on those shows actually are. In their minds the Government is out to get us all and they are watching our every move and trying to kill Americans. They claim the Government is the cause of cancer or some how orchestrated the events of 9/11. They have these really far fetched ideas and very little evidence to back their claims.
Today was a first for me as I met one of these conspiracy theorists. After a very stressful morning I decided to treat myself to breakfast. As I'm sitting in the drive thru I notice the grubby looking guy in the truck behind me was getting out and heading towards my car. I thought okay maybe I have a break light out or something and he's coming to tell me. So he taps on the glass and I barely crack my window because I don't know this guy. He tells me he wants to talk to me about the Autism magnet on the back of my car.
This guy informed me that the reason my child has Autism is because of the Government. Yep the Government is putting something in vaccines to hurt people and he also informed me that the Government is trying to kill people with the flu vaccine.
He started talking about Jesse Ventura and how he's predicting all this crap and he even said that the Bible foretells us that the Government is going to eradicate us all by way of vaccines. I must have missed that chapter in the Bible because I don't recall ever reading anything like that.
I was kind of floored when he started talking about how our military men and women are overseas fighting in the war because it's an easy way for the Government to kill off a bunch of Americans at one time without looking suspicious. I was thinking, "did he really just say that or am I hearing things".
Normally I would have cursed this guy out and told him to (excuse my language) fuck off with his ignorant theories but I lent him my ear for the sole purpose of the entertainment value it was providing me with. For some reason I couldn't take my eyes off his grossly non attractive Jack-O-Latern smile.
I wanted to ask him if he thinks that dentists are out to kill us too and that's why he has missing teeth and a jacked up mouth but I refrained.
This guy talked non stop for what seemed like forever before I thanked him in mid sentence for sharing that info with me and pulled forward to place my order.
I'm not an Autism expert nor do I claim to be. I am however very educated on the subject and in no way do I think that my sons Autism was attributed to vaccines. Nor do I think the Government is trying to kills us all with the flu vaccine.
I honestly think that my son was born with Autism because when I look back I can see signs early on.
I think it's absurd to blame the Government for my sons Autism, and these conspiracy theorists can shove it. There is nobody to blame for Autism, and sadly it's an unfortunate disorder that no one is to blame for.
I laughed and told my mom that I guess Obama is to blame for Sammy's Autism since everyone likes to blame him for everything that's not right in the country lol.
Blaming Obama sounds crazy doesn't it? So does blaming the Government for it.
Instead of wasting the energy pointing fingers and coming up with conspiracy theories, that energy could be better spent helping to promote Autism awareness or finding a cure.
